Here are the numbers:

  • 21 percent have learning disabilities
  • 7 times more likely to have ADHD
  • 65 percent graduate high school
  • 44 percent are undergrads in college
  • 42 percent are in graduate school
  • 10.3 percent seriously consider suicide
  • 4.6 percent attempt suicide
  • 27 percent are heavy drinkers
  • 30 percent use tobacco
  • 29 percent have carried a weapon
  • 1o percent under age 13 have had sex
  • 11 percent tried marijuana before age 13
  • 63 percent have had sex by the time they are high school seniors

What a list of numbers, what a shocking value and depending on what label I attach the the list will determine your reaction to the list. If I were to say that the list represents African-American’s we would be outraged, if it represented females we would scream sexism. If I were to tell you this was research from an third world nation we would say we expected this.

But if I tell you this is the numbers of our boy, here in America, most would just set it aside, think nothing more of it. Were is the outrage, were is the cry of unfair treatment. Lets look at some of the numbers again, using a comparison to girls here in America.

  • 72 percent of girls graduate from high school and only 65 percent of boys
  • 56 percent of undergraduates are girls and only 44 percent are boys
  • 24 percent of girls admit to drinking heavily as opposed to 27 percent of boy
  • 21 percent of girls use tobacco 30 percent boys
  • 4 percent of girls under age of 13 compared to 10 percent of boys under 13 have had sexual intercourse
  • 5 percent verses 11 percent of boys under the are of 13 tried marijuana

So I ask you one more time, were is the outraged, why are we not taking to the streets demanding that we save our boys. There are some who say, it’s about time, that girls have, for far to long, lived in the shadows of boys. And others that would say, someone has to win, why not the girls.

It saddens me to see our country like this, and trust me, there are a lot of things that make me sad about this county, but that is for another blog. This one is about the missing cry, the lost tear for our sons.

Have we gotten to a point in our evolution were boys are tossed to the sideline, all in the name of feminism? Have we gotten to the point in our history were we are willing to let one segment of our population got the sidelines? In some respects we have already gotten there, we have already created a class of citizens that are disposable. We have taught our sons and daughters that life is of no real value, that we can “terminate” life anytime we choose, so why are we surprised that we are willing, as a nation, to allow our boys to die a slow death.

America is a nation that is on the verge of a great change. We are standing at the edge of the cliff that will tumble us over the edge in to a future that will forever alter our great nation.

We just dint arrive here, we have been walking towards this cliff for years, taking very small steps. But as of late, our step has quickened, we are taking giant steps towards the edge. For the first time in our history we are about to step over the edge… to plunge in to the abyss…

The problem of our boys, the numbers above show that we as a nation have turned in to a nation of micro-issues. We grab on to “hot” issues and “fix” them, often times at the expense of others. We look at the single issue ignoring the multiple issues that are connected to it, that surround it.

To fix the fact that girls lagged behind in school, we tossed the boy to the side. We set up programs that directly hurt boys in the name of helping girls. We looked at the singular and not seeing the multiple.

Someone has to loose right? Someone needs to pay for the inequities we created, so why not our boys?

Look at the men we are creating, they use, to be boys, look around you, and ask yourself, why do we have families with out fathers, were did all the men go? I’ll tell you, we educated it out of them, all in the name of creating a fair and level playing field. Problem is, it was not fair nor was it level. We are not paying the price for it.

read the numbers above one more time, look at the percentages and ask yourself, were is the outrage?

static solutions new 2009 logo 2 You would think that when I take time off of work I would have even more time to write, but that’s not how it works. I am in the middle of an effort to launch my company, STATIC Solutions, LLC and it’s products on a national level, so my free time is truly not all that free. Sure I took a few days off to celebrate the holiday, spent time with my family and had a great time doing so. but I also spent time working on the campaign “Faith…. Pass IT on” for STATIC.

The basic concept, well to pass on our faith from one generation to the next, of course using the STATIC program. The campaign starts in July, so really I have very little time and lots still to do. So if my blogs are a little erratic please understand that I most likely just didn’t have the time nor the energy to sit and think of what to write.

But I thought I would use this posting to help myself work out the whole Pass IT on water faith pass it on concept. Our Faith is a gift from God, a gift given freely and one that we can choose to accept or not. Sadly many have not excepted the Gift, or if they have, they only take what they want and leave the rest to rot. We see this in our daily lives, so call Christians promoting abortion, running shady businesses, cheating on there taxes and in general just not being very nice people. Sure we all have our moments but I’m not talking about moments, rather I am talking about  lifetimes of moments.

We all know the sort of person I am speaking about, the attend church every week, they may even be extremely involved in extra activities at church but once they leave the holy grounds, they are the tax cheats or the abortion doctors.

Ultimately it is there own souls that they must defend before the thrown of God, but we also have an obligation to them, they are our brothers and sisters in Christ, and we owe them or concern.

If we are to Pass IT on, we must know what it is we are passing on, we must understand that importance of passing IT on. I look at the type of people mentioned above and can’t help thinking that the faith was not passed on correctly, that whom ever Passed IT on failed to Pass IT all On, that something was missed.

the Catholic Church has done a horrible job of Passing IT On in the past, in fact the whole STATIC program is in response to that very fact. As Youth Ministers, my ex-partner and I, decided that we needed to create a program that would excite the youth, involve them and make them want to participate in there own faith development.

fotolia_4149121We had come to the understanding that the parents and the Church as a whole had some how lots the ability  and or the desire to educate our youth. The world had deemed soccer and baseball and band and all the other activities of youth more important than there own faith development. Now before everyone gets on me here, yes I do think that all the things mentioned above are important, and yes I do understand that time is tight and that there are lots of parents struggling to just manage what they got. But I also understand that many place soccer and the rest above God and learning all we can about Him.  So we, at STATIC, decided to create a program with out the parents or other adults in mind, but rather to look at faith through the eyes and hearts of our middle schoolers. We decided to teach them in ways that they would understand and not concern ourselves with trying to make the parents understand, the net result, we created a program that the youth love and understand, on they want to attend and were learning seems almost an after thought. But the bonus was the parents were learning also, they were becoming more active in our parish and with our youth program. STATIC set out to teach the youth, but ended up teaching the parish.

Now I must take a moment to clarify that last statement about teaching the parish. We did have an impact on our parish, the parents of our youth were involved, we never had issues getting volunteers, we even had nonparents come to us to ask if they could help. It truly was a grand thing to be apart of and to witness. We saw the growth of our parish and there understanding of our youth. The sad part to my story is the parish powers that be (excluding the director of education at our parish, she was one of the original partners and the one whom I brained stormed with and we created the original STATIC concept).

The money changer at our parish never understood the concept of investing in our youth, she never really gained the level of compassion needed to truly embrace STATIC. To her it was all money, dollars and cents and control. She did not see little donation envelopes with the names of the youth on it, there for they did not deserve a voice, she could not control what she did not value, our youth, so the program in her little mind was a waste, a money pit. Sad but true, and I fear this may be the norm at more Parishes than I would like to think. I hope and pray it is not the “way it is” at most, I hope it is a minority and not a majority. God willing!

tall passiton Back to the Pass IT on concept. So STATIC was truly Passing IT On at our local parish, but it is now time, 5 years latter, to start marketing the program, to place STATIC Solutions, LLC out there to and let everyone experience the STATIC Youth Program for themselves. So this July The Pass IT On marketing campaign will start, we will be placing banner ad’s on Catholic on line for three months and sending out emails to local parishes. If you would like to be included in the email marketing campaign please contact STATIC at sales@staticplace.com.

This program promises to be dynamic in all aspects and that includes the delivery method and pricing as well. The STATIC Program is going to be priced to be affordable for all size parishes. From very small to extremely large, and the delivery method of the materials and the unlimited use of the materials will allow for a very dynamic program, one that can be customized to your parish needs. If you would like more information on this program, and you are a decision maker for your parish please send your name and address to sales@staticplace.com and we will send out information to you.

Well so much for my marketing blog, until next time…

So why haven’t you changed yet?

Excuses about age, time, money, and every other item we throw into the mix to help us feel better about putting our dreams on hold will end up killing our hopes for a happy and fulfilling life.

We can create ten thousand reasons not to do something, and ignore the one reason why we should. Often times that’s what it comes down to, I know for me I use ten thousand and one reasons why I don’t work out, No time, I forgot, I need this, Ill start tomorrow, and on and on the list goes, and each day it is getting harder and harder to do. And one day, if I wait long enough, it will be true, I wont be able to work out, I be dead.

We each have that one area we need to work on, and most of us have the excuses why we don’t memorized. It’s a sad state… each day I tell myself, today I will start to use the treadmill again, pr today I will walk the dogs, today I will lift the weighs and go on that diet, but today never seems to come, because I am always finding excuses.

Excuses are easy to come by, any old one will work really, from the creative to the everyday. It truly don’t matter as long as you have one. If you don’t I am sure a friend will give you one, there cheep to get.

The excuses we use often times come with a free gift, the gift of believing. If we use the excuse often enough we will believe the excuse. It’s a rather remarkable thing really. You see if I tell myself enough that I will start tomorrow, knowing full well I wont, but after time, well I start to think I truly will start tomorrow. Problem is, tomorrow never comes…

So why haven’t you changed yet? What poor excuse have you used?

  • It’s hard
  • I will, but not yet, I need to do _____(fill-in the blank)
  • I am waiting for this or that
  • I was going to start today, but this happened
  • Well I figured I needed to wait until this, then I needed to do that, and once this comes in the mail, and the moon if full, I will start, I promise!

And the list can go on and on…

So what is it you need to do?

  • move
  • go back to school
  • clean out the attic
  • work out
  • quit smoking
  • diet
  • return to Church
  • find yourself

What ever the task, what ever the goal you need to start today, no excuses, one small step, is a step in the right direction. As for me, a friend and I are to start walking at lunch time today. Not much, but a small step in the right direction.

Ever had someone say something that just made you shake your head and ask yourself what was that, what just happened? Well sometimes that how life is, we just have to shake our heads and ask ourselves what just happened.

There are moments in life that I feel should not be explained, moments were we just accept life for what it is and move on. Many of the moments are special moments, moments that we are glad we are part of, moments that define us and create us.  And some moments we want to redo, to take back, or at least we thing we do.

The moments that define us are not only the positive moments, in-fact I would argue that it is the negative moments that truly define us.

It is said that you find your true friends in crisis, and based on experience, I would have to agree. It is in the moment of crisis that friendships are created, solidified or broken, and I have had all three happen.

It is said that leaders are born out of a crises, that in the moment of need the natural leader will emerge. We have seen it in times of war and person crisis. We witness it in times of tragedies’ and destruction. These leaders are quiet people who perform there daily tasks with pride and diligent. Riding the wave of life, until the tsunami hits, the crisis creates opportunity and the leader will emerge.

Crisis creates opportunity and opportunity creates defining moments.

Ask yourself this one question, and than respond truthfully and I guarantee you will change your life forever.

Can a statement like that truly be true? Can one question alter your whole life, make that much of an impact on you that your life is totally different, that you charge a new course?

What sort of question must it be? Is it a question for one of your ancestors of Greek or Roman descent? A question of a great sage or from one of the eastern religions know for deep thoughts. A question from Buda or Krishna maybe, or did it come from Jesus or from one of the prophets?

Or maybe the question really doesn’t exist, maybe there is no one question that will change your life, maybe it’s all useless, we should just give up now, and not even search for the question.

Ask yourself this one question, and than respond truthfully and I guarantee you will change your life forever.

I know the question, and I will share it with you now, this one simple question will, if you allow it to, change your life forever. The rules are simple:

1. Read the question as it is, do not try to read anything in to it, there is no hidden message or meaning.

2. You must be open minded about the question.

3. You must give it some thought, this is not a question you can just simple put down any old response to.

4. You must be honest, you can not respond the way you think others want you to, you must respond with the truth as you know it at this moment.

5. You must be willing to take ownership of the responses, the only way to use the responses for agents of change, is to own them.

Ok, now that you have the rules, and you agree to them, we can move on, you will need to write the question down, it’s part of the ownership thing, by writing it down, in your own hand writing, it becomes yours.

Here is the question:

What really matters to you?

That’s it, that is the one question that will change your life. But remember, you have to allow it time to sink in, you have to give it deep thought. This is not a quick response question, but rather one of slow deep thinking.

Once you have your list or paragraphs or statements or what ever you decided to write, now comes the hard part. Now comes the part were you must look at that list and ask the following questions about it:

1. Is it (the feeling, action, goal) a positive?

2. Does it (feeling, action, goal) create a better world?

3. Will it help others?

4. Is it affirming?

The questions above a re designed to help you align your responses to a life changing action.  Example, if what really matters to me is money, than how is it a positive, how is it useful for a better world how will it help others and how will it be affirming to me?

To make a difference in our own lives, we must be willing to make a difference in the lives of others. No man (or woman) lives in a void, our actions or lack of actions affects the world around us, to truly become more we must be willing and able to affect others around us, in a positive and uplifting way.

The question “What really matters to you” is not a question about you, but really it is a question that will help you define your interactions with the world around you.

Good luck with the question, it truly can change your life.

Pride is a very strong emotion, one that has driven people to extremes. We have witnessed the pride of a man (or a woman) bring them down in a blaze of fire, and we have seen pride rebuild a man (or a woman) from the deepest despair life can offer.

Why is this, what makes one emotions so powerful and at the opposite ends of the spectrum.

This I can not answer, but I can offer my own insights on the topic. Anyone who reads my blogs an a regular basis will know that I often times return to the subject of EGO (Edging God Out), well I think Pride has a small place in EGO.

The pride that causes harm, pride that drives a man to extremes is a pride that is unhealthy.

To have pride in your work, in your life and in yourself and family is a very healthy, and necessary thing. It is when that pride overrides all, when that pride becomes the end all to all that is when it enters the EGO, that is when it becomes a destructive force, not only in your life but all around you.

When we feel that what we do is more important that others, or when we think that our actions are defining moments, when we place ourselves at the very center of life, the EGO has began its destruction.

How do we know when pride becomes EGO, were is that line? I think we all have a different thresh hold, but I also think we all know, internally, were it is.

For me, EGO is the evil part of my being, it is the original sin of Adam and Eve, it was there EGO’s that told them to eat of the fruit, to want to become god’s themselves. Pride, the feeling of being more than they were.

We need to be proud, we need that feeling and that emotion, but we need to control it, and not allow it to take over, when it takes over, that is when pride becomes EGO, a destructive force.

I am very proud of a the volume of work I have created, the programs I have developed but I am also very aware that there is always something more, something better out there, that what I have created is good, maybe even great, and I take great pride in the work, but I know I am only one of many. I will not allow my EGO to take hold of it, I do not, for one minute, think that what I have created is anything more than what it is.

Pride and EGO often times share the same fine line. It is easy to step on way or the other, Pride becoming EGO and EGO becoming pride. Careful where you step, look and see were you are headed and say on the side of pride.

The other day I wrote a blog concerning a TV program I watched about the Knight Templar’s. The basic idea of what I was writing was the fact that the TV show spent 10 to 20 minutes talking about how mean and evil the Knights were, yet gave just a fleeting mention to the fact that they were protecting and defending the Holy Land from attach from the Muslims.

I found the responses I received interesting, I posted this blog on my STATIC Youth  blog site, but also on my Linked In site in the Catholic Group I belong to. The STATIC Youth site received no comments, but the Catholic Group on Linked in, wow! I was called a Liberal Catholic, told to go to confession and basically my faith call in to question because I dared to say that the Knights may have done some bad things.

I responded to this person for a little bit, but I have decided it matters not what I say to him, he is just dead set on saving my soul, regardless as to what I have to say. It’s almost like tossing a life ring to someone on dry land. Now please understand, I am not saying I don’t need salvation, because I do, but what I am getting at is I have explained to this person, several times, that I am not what he thinks I am, nor and I attaching the Catholic Church. But that is just adding facts to it, and he will have none of that!

It did make me stop and thing a bit, here I am, online, have a major discussion with someone I don’t even know, being accused of anti-Catholic views, and basically  being told I am not a Catholic at all. How is it, that a person feels they can make such statements concerning someone they never met nor has he read anything else I have written, and based on his responses to what I have said to him, he will not read other things I have written. Have we gotten to a point were people feel free to attach you, to call in to question your convictions over the net. Have we allowed ourselves to be fooled in to thinking that we have gained knowledge of a persons soul or being over the net?

In some ways, yes we have, look at all the so call “long distance” relationships started via chat rooms, or people who claim friendships to IM friends they never had met. We have allowed the simple task of typing to each other replace face to face, we have allowed the net with all its cool and amazing possibilities to overshadow human contact. So in a way, I have lead myself in to this little mess, but contributing to it. Such is life…

Now, I will continue to post, and I will continue to dialog with others on the net, and yes i will continue to add people to my “friends” list, I just found it interesting, that’s all.
