Dark days are always a part of our life, but having said that so are light day. There is an opposite for everything. For good there is bad, for up there is down, you get the idea.

But for many there is no opposite, they choose to see only one side of all things, for them there is no good but only bad, or there is no down only up. Their world is an all or nothing world. Their world is full of light or full of darkness. They only move up or down, but not both.

Both cases are bad, we need change, we need flexibility, and we need the darkness and the light. We are not created to be constant; we are created to be change. Always evolving, growing and becoming a new creation. It is the contrasts of life that allow us to do so.

If we only see the world as all good, why bother changing, it is perfect the way it is. If we see everything as down, then what’s the use of even trying to change, it will only end in a downward motion.

It is the ebb and flow that create the need to grow, the need to see things in a new light.

We need balance, we need to be dark and light up and down… We need to allow ourselves the privilege of contrast. The black and white lights are what give the world its colors. If we have no black, we would have no color, no variations to what we see or experience.

So allow yourself the experience to live the black and white of life, to see the ups and downs and to know the colors of the world.

Authentic freedom does not meant doing what you want when you want to whom you want, but rather it means, understand who you are, and that you are not alone here.

All too often we think of freedom as a free for all. But freedom does not mean that, in any way shape or form.

With freedom comes great responsibility.  You now have the weight of the world on your shoulders; your life is not yours, when you are truly free. Sounds like a contradiction in terms, but really it’s not.

It is a paradox, one that will make you think, but not a contradiction. The more freedom we have, the more we are called to respond.

Our freedom is directly connected to our freewill. We gain freedom, by exercising our freewill in a positive and productive way. We make choices in our daily lives, choices that affect our ability to live a free life.

When we choose to go counter to the common good, we choose slavery, slavery to the consequences of our choice. When we choose not to listen to our conscience we choose to listen to the voice of evil, when we do that, we have just entered in to a slave/master relationship. With us being the slave.

Freedom allows us to make choices that benefit us and more importantly the world around us. Freedom demands of us, or rather obligates us to concern ourselves with the affairs of the world around us.

If you look at the world around you, countries where freedom is lacking, the over all population is less concerned with their fellow man, then in a freer society. The same can be said of individuals, the more freedom we and individuals have, and the more responsible we act to other, on the whole.

Freedom calls us to a radical obligation, a deep concern and a greater empathy to others. Freedom does not and can not survive if, we use our freedom for self gain, freedom is not an individual action or concern, but rather it’s a community, and global concern.

You can not change with out affecting others around you, and the world can not be a freer place, with out you changing with it.

We are community, we are all called to change, to a greater good, we are all created to be free and to exercise you freewill. But we must hear the call load and true, that freedom is not just about you, freedom is about all.

To truly change your life, you need to think outside the box, you need to look in to yourself and see things differently. The movie The Dead Poet Society demonstrated this point beautifully when the students where asked to stand on the desk, in order to see the world from a different point of view. The exercise was simple, silly but very powerful.

All too often we look at the world the way that makes us the most comfortable. We find that comfort zone very early in our life, when we are just in our teens. We learn what makes us uneasy, and learn to avoid this situation or we learn how to block it, shut down our intake so we do not have to experience it.

But to grow, to become new, we have to learn how to re-evaluate the world around us, and to look at the world through new eyes. We have to lift ourselves up above the world and ourselves and learn to see the world around us and ourselves and new and different.

The excitement can be overwhelming and often we equate overwhelming with a negative experience, but the opposite can be true as well. In-fact it should be considered a very positive experience. Life is yours to take, if you are willing to do so.

Carpe diem (Latin for ‘seize the day’), another reference back to the movie Dead Poets Society this phrase should be all our ours motto, each day is a gift, one that we need to seize, make our own and to live as if it is our last day on this earth. We where created to live life to the fullest, we where created to love life.

To truly change your life, to truly create yourself new, you need to step outside the box, you need to look at life from a different vantage point. You must stand high and look down on the world around you, and truly change your perspective on your life and the world around you.

So start to day, start now, get up, stand on your desk or chair or what ever is around you and say carpe diem, and mean it! Look at life as an adventure, one worth having.
