Our personal freedom is under attack, we are in parlous times. Our nation is about to vote in a new president, and with that president a new way of life. We can choose between Freedom or Socialism (see my other blog at www.staticyouth.wordpress.com). We are faced with a decision that will change the face of this nation for generations to come, one vote can change the face of history.

I normally am not a alarmist, but I fear for our great nation. I fear that we will, by the very act of exercising or freedom by voting, vote away that most precious gift of freedom.

Please understand that I do not think that the next president will remove our freedoms wholesale, but rather put in place a system of government that will, over time, slowly transform us in to a socialistic form of government and in doing so, remove our freedom to choose.

free·dom     /ˈfri dəm/ Pronunciation KeyShow Spelled Pronunciation[free-duh m] Pronunciation KeyShow IPA Pronunciation

the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint: He won his freedom after a retrial.

exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc.

the power to determine action without restraint.

political or national independence.

personal liberty, as opposed to bondage or slavery: a slave who bought his freedom

The dictionary defines freedom as a independence, personal liberty and power over our own actions. Freedom is a fragile thing, one that can be removed under the cover of protection or empowerment and entitlements.

We look to the government to fix all our ailments, and expect them to fix them, to make it all better. So why should we be surprised when the government starts to dictate what we can and cannot do. We already see the start of this, the government is trying to pass the “Fairness Doctrine”, a bill that would remove from the air waves (radio only) the voice of the conservatives. All this is being done under the banner of looking out for you. Deciding what is best for you, how you should spend your money, what you should eat, and where you should go. Each new program or law created to “take care of Americans” in one new program or law bringing us closer to a new America. One where we the people no longer have the freedom to choose, to decide and act upon issues and concerns as we see fit.

The government has decided that we the people of America are not smart enough to make decisions that they know better. Hitler and Marx had the same idea that they know better than the “common” people that government will care for you, just sit back and relax.

This idea scares me more than any other idea in the current political philosophy. We are willing to turn over our freedoms, to make our life easier, let big government (big brother) take care of it all. I’ll just follow along and do as I am told, so at the end of the day I too will get my government cookie.

No thanks, I prefer to back my own cookies, and share them as I see fit. The government as a place in society, and her woes, but the place is not providing for all, it’s not controlling her citizens in the name of fairness.

Fairness is not taking for the few for the masses, fairness is not redistributing wealth as you see fit. Fairness is making the playing field as level as humanly possible, allowing each person the opportunity to create for themselves the life they choose. Fairness is allowing freedom to work, allowing the individual to achieve greatness on their own.

We have less them one month left until we decide if freedom is worth fighting for.  Stop and look at the state of America, stop and think about your freedoms, is that worth fighting for? Are you really ready to hand over your freedom in the name of fairness, In the name of big government? Are you ready to sell out America; are you ready to create the world’s new socialistic government?

With so much politics in the air, I thought I would add to the mix. In truth this election holds a lot at stake for America. We have both parties with historic candidates, the democrats with Obama and the Republicans with Palin.  But as important as that may be, that is not the real issue, what is at issue is how we see our roll in this country.

Do we see ourselves as free, free to choose for ourselves or as being taken care of, needing others to choose for us? To me that is the only question that needs to be asked this election, it’s not about the war, nor is it about the economy, it’s about freedom.

At this point I will give all democrats an out, I am a conservative, a strong, pig headed conservative, who believes that people should and can make their own decisions. So if you are a liberal that believes in the government making your donations for you in the form of taxation and redistribution they stop reading this blog,  if you’re a liberal who feels that the government should protect you from the bad corporations out there, then stop reading this blog.

My faith is in humanity, not in government. Now don’t get me wrong, I believe in the United Sates government, and I love her for what she represents. But I do not like the directions liberals of this country are trying to take her, and we as Americans need to fight back, and take back our freedoms! We do not need the government telling us where our own money needs to go, who I have to support and so on. We need to choose for ourselves what charities we support, what social programs are worthy of support, we need the freedom to place our hard earned money where we want it to go!

But it’s not just about money; it’s also about basic personal freedoms. It’s about our ability to choose what doctor we want to see, or even what insurance program we what to purchase. It’s about a company’s ability to choose the path they wish to travel. Be it sound or not.  To remove this freedom, even for good intentions, damages the country more then to leave it. We are a kind nation, one that is known worldwide for giving in times of need, we are known for fighting for people who cannot do so for themselves and for teaching them how to fight. As the old saying goes, “Give them a fish, they eat for a day, teach them to fish, they eat for life.”

All too often social programs are of the “Give them a fish” mentality; we feed them for a day, but never teach them. That’s because to teach them would be to give them freedom, to give them the ability to fight for themselves, removing the need for the program, and the control that comes with it.

We are a nation of great intentions, we want to see everyone “make it”, but you cannot, nor should we want to, force it on someone. We, as individuals need to earn it, work for it, and sacrifice for it. To be given all I need, with no effort on my part, is to ask me to sell my freedom, as a very low price, for freedom is priceless!

This election holds the nation in a balance, depending on who we vote will determine the nation’s future. Will we vote for personal freedom, or for a nanny nation who watches over us, and decides for us? We have the freedom to choose, let’s choose freedom!

Monkey see, Monkey do…. The same goes for a child, they learn to live and how to interact from the example we show.

We are intolerant, so are they

We lie, they return it with a lie

We hate, they hate with greater force

The child is a gift that we must protect and teach to live well in this world. We are obligated to take care of them, to provide for them, not only a home, food and other such things, but we are obligated to teach them how to be in this world.

We do our teaching with words and actions. We set examples, and we live out the truth we are setting forth.  To the best of our ability.

The child is the world of today, and of tomorrow, how we treat them and what we teach them will become ours. The Child of today, that we care for, will be the adult that cares for us.

The golden rule applies here, due unto others, as you want done unto you…

So teach your child to use others, they will use you…

Teach them the respect all things, and they will respect you…

The gift of a good example will repay you many times over, the child today who learns to love, is the adult of tomorrow who save the world.

A child, yours or someone else, it matters not, is ours to teach, to nurture and love. One child sees hatred, and they become, one child sees love and they become.

It is the example that we all set, not just the parents, a child could grow-up in a home of hate, but because of the community around him/her they learn love. A recent report stated that the peers and outside community of a child may have more to do with the child and how they grow up then the parents. The example they used was a child who’s parents where from a foreign country, the child will pick up the accent of his/her peers, and not that of the parents.

We, as community, have the same obligation to raise that child in a healthy, happy and safe environment, it truly takes a community to set the example for the child.

When we vote this November, we need to remember we are also voting for the example we wish to send to the children of our community, when we watch TV, we are setting an example, how we talk, eat and all other daily activities set examples.

It is our obligation, and privlage to raise them, to love them and respect them. Show your love for them by setting a good example in all you do!
